Our Molli

Eleanore Hays and I have been debating for a long time now when and under what circumstances we would have to make the decision to help Molli (Pocopayasos LJ’s Hot Tamale 6/13/2001) over the rainbow bridge.  It’s a tough decision, but things have gotten to the point where Molli no longer has a quality of life.  Today at 4:20 we will say our goodbyes.  Unbelievable as it seems, Molli was diagnosed with Leukemia over ten years ago.  We elected not to treat it as it was believed it would only extend her life by months.  Nature has allowed her ten years, partially because of the excellent care Eleanore Hays has given Molli, cooking special food for her on a daily basis, and partially because she was such a great example of a healthy Havanese.  She may have been unfortunate enough to contract this horrible disease, but the rest of her was made of titanium.
Mollie has a huge fan club and will be accompanied by Eleanore, Eleanore’s neighbor who also cooks for Molli, as well as Willard, and myself.   She was and is just so beautiful, even now despite her illness, and a beautiful example  of the Havanese breed.  Unfortunately, Molli hated the showring.  She would quite willingly go around the ring – once.  After that  she seemed to say, if they can’t appreciate me by now to heck with them.  She was right, she very rarely lost in the ring and by a year was both Canadian and US champion.  She was dam to Sonrisas Tiny Thomas who was number one All Breeds in Canada in 2006 , CH Sonrisas Winning Oscar, CH Sonrisas Hot n Spicy Wasabi, and Pocopaysos' Hot Dam.
We have sent Molli’s DNA to the  OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) and it will now be accompanied by an extensive autopsy and hopefully it will help us to understand this dreaded disease and bring greater health to both dogs and people.
Molli, we love you and will miss you dreadfully, but thank you for the great contribution you have made to all our lives.
