Update on Lusa

Lusa's temperature is starting to drop.  I'm pretty sure the pups will be here within the next 24 to 48 hours.  It's always so exciting to meet our newest little members of our canine family.  I'll be joined this time with potential new breeder Terri Fudge.

Lusa's X-ray

If the vet's count was accurate it looks like we will be having eight puppies soon.  Will keep you posted!

Another article on the effects of spay/neuter on our dogs:

https://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/spay-neuter-and-joint-disease/

There is also this article discussing the long term effects of spay/neuter and cognitive impairment as a dog ages.  Mojo may be an example of this,  because as he ages he is having episodes of what I will call bewilderment.  He is healthy and still very mobile and active but there are times when he almost seems  to enter a state where he doesn't know where he is even though his sight and hearing are still intact.   Hmmm,  not unlike his aging owner.  Mojo was neutered when he was about three years old.

In Europe dogs are routinely left intact and it doesn't seem to create the problems that it does in North America.  Different culture I guess.

Do you think your dog is a genius?

Here is a a book and program which may help determine just what your dog can really do and what he is good at doing or maybe not so good at doing.  There is also a way you can participate in this research.

Dr. Hare talks about the research into the cognitive abilities of dogs and explains what the purpose and goals of that research are:

This is the program and how any dog owner can participate in this research:
