Supplies
Here is the type of crate that I use. It's about 24 inches long The plastic ones get way to hot in the summer and do not allow enough air flow. This particular model is good and sturdy for travel in a car. You can use it for when the pup first get home by rolling up a blanket like a cigar and placing it around the outside edges of the inside. This creates a den feeling for the puppy. Puppies do not want to soil their dens so it helps train the puppy. You'll want chew toys, not rawhides, but hard rubber items. I like the deer antlers as well. Baron, below saved his owner the money by bringing one back from one of their walks. Some people claim the dogs may break their teeth on them, but my dogs have never had a problem. The most important thing for now is to make sure all their baby teeth fall out on their own. They should all be out by about six months. You'll have to watch the canines carefully because they tend not to fall out and your puppy will end up with eight canine teeth. I'll show you how to loosen them when you are here. You may want to buy a toothbrush and the tooth paste you want to use (I use Petzlife) and just let the puppy chew on the brush so he gets use to it and the taste of the toothpaste. You can start the actual brushing when the dog gets older.
Books
I've ordered a copy of the separation anxiety book for everyone so if you come for a visit before taking your puppy home, please remember to take a copy home with you. It's always best to read up before taking the puppy so you can organize what you have read and decide how you are going to apply the suggestions that the author makes. Also, if you come for a visit please bring a small, newly washed blanket or towel with you. After washing please have your family members handle the blanket with newly washed hands so that the puppies will be exposed to your family odours. Washing is extremely important because of the danger of introducing the parvo virus. Place the blanket in a clean plastic bag and bring it with you for your visit. Just before you come to pick up your puppy I'll reverse the process and have the odours of mom, brothers and sisters, plus Willard and me on the blanket.
I'm getting exciting about bringing the puppies out to the living room and getting them playing with some of the new puppy toys I have for them.

Another Must Read Before Bringing Your Puppy Home
Separation Anxiety is probably one of the biggest problems with a Havanese especially for the first time puppy owner.
I found this book, short, easy to read and helpful.

They are starting to play with one another and I'll be able to get some more interesting video. They are starting to get up on their feet.

Notice Terry's brown spot on his face - he has tan points and will develop eyebrows which may or may not stay tan color. The tan may, probably will fade to white.

Naming your puppy
Your puppy will have a distinct name when it is registered with the Canadian Kennel Club.
The rules for that registered name are:
It must include the name Sonrisas as a prefix.
CKC Rules regarding
names state that the name of a dog may contain no more than thirty (30) letters
including spaces, and may not contain cardinal or ordinal
numbers.
Have fun with
this!
A few examples with
call names
are:
Sonrisas Freddie for President - call name
Fred
Sonrisas Hava
Java - call name
Java
Sonrisas The
Whole Enchilada - call name
Taco
Sonrisas Winning
Oscar - call name
Oscar
Not acceptable for CKC
Sonrisas King
George III would not be accepted nor would Sonrisas The Chosen One or Sonrisas
First in My Heart because of the numbers.
Today's weights and video
Somehow two of the puppies seemed to have dissappeared from this video, but I'll try to get those two in the next video.

Puppies are doing well
The whole gang is gaining weight and mom has decided they can survive without her for a few minutes at a time. This is always a good sign that things are going normally since mom knows best.

Terry O'Reilly host of "Age of Persuasion" and "Under the Influence"
Once you hear Terry's voice you'll want to listen to all his shows, plus the subject matter (advertising) is fascinating.
Jian Gomeshi - host of "Q" on CBC Radio
If I ever keep another male Havanese I will name it Best of Q Jian, call name Jian. Look at the pigment forming on his nose already.
CBC Personalities - Vicki Gabareau
Vicki is the smallest in the litter, but may catch up soon. She was at the top of the horn and for whatever reason, the puppies possitioned there tend to be the smallest in the litter. (4th in birthing order). I'm loading them in birthing order which will make them ordered inversely when viewed on the blog.
Theme - CBC Personalities Mary Ito
The theme for this litter will be CBC Radio. This station has gotten me over
many, many miles in the car and is my favourite radio station bar none. Introducing Mary Ito from "Here and Now".

The theme for this litter will be CBC Radio. This station has gotten me over many, many miles in the car and is my favourite radio station bar none. This is Ann-Marie MacDonald who hosts Doc Zone. She is also an accomplished actress and author. Notice the brown ring on Ann-Marie's left leg. She carries the tan marking gene and may develop brown (may fade to white) markings on her face.
