First time outdoors
First time outdoors
These guys weren't too happy about going outdoors, but they are only four weeks. Usually they are just coming out of the welphing box so this is early. However, they didn't take long to adapt and settle down. They had just finished eating so some are covered with puppy mush.

Four weeks old today - click here for video
The cookie sheet you'll see at the end has a tennis ball glued to the bottom. This gets the puppies use to uneven surfaces and to the noise that the medal makes when it hits the floor.
I don't like the puppies on this slippery linoleum, but hope to get them outside on the grass once the heat wave breaks

Puppies had their first dog food meal
There will be video later today, but the puppies ate their first puppy mush meal this morning. The mush consists of about one part Orijen adult dog food to two parts warm water all ground up in the magic bullet. This is the earliest I've ever fed dog food to a litter and I can't get over how they took to it so easily. This litter really does seem to be maturing very rapidly. No sign of teeth as yet.
The weather doesn't look like it's going to be good for putting the puppies outside, but I'm anxious to see how they react to a totally new environment. Moving out of the whelping box to the living room didn't seem to phase them at all. All of these puppies are going to have pretty steady personalities. Right now it seems like Fredith is going to be the instigator while Lauren is going to be the sweet and gentle one. That can all change though in the next couple of weeks.

7 a.m. this morning, June 14
These puppies are doing extremely well and will be out of the whelping box by Monday of next week which is earlier than usual. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and they can spend a lot of time outside getting all the exercise they need. We will set up a large area on the grass with a couple of pop-up tents to give them shade.
Recent research has shown that rolling hills give the best exercise for puppies so we will try to get the tents set up in such a way that they can run up and down the small hills we have in our yard. What this same research indicated is that stairs are not good exercise for pups prior to three months. Don't know how valid this is, but rather than put them in the area we have for the adults with stairs and artificial turf, we will put them in the agility area of the yard.

Video From Yesterday
Video from yesterday.
I was working at a dog show for three days so didn't have time for videos, but will do better by next week. This coming weekend George and I are going to Dunkirk, NY to compete in Advanced Rally. We didn't know the requirements had changed until yesterday so don't know if we can get ready fast enough, but we'll have fun anyway.

Go Home Dates
The pups
have their U of Guelph appointment on July 27 so they can go home any time after
that. Their eye appointment will be before that although the clinic wasn't able to
schedule it as yet. Will do that on Monday. They have their vaccination and
microchip appointment on July 18.
If the pick-up dates can be scheduled soon it would be very helpful, I hope to be able to spend some time with each of the new owners so hopefully we can spread out the pick-ups over three or four days.
Thanks everyone.

George II
Here's a puppy from our last litter - I call him George the Second. He looks so much like our Molli (our first female Havanese) maybe because his sire is a grandson of Molli's dad.
